Do Termite Bait Stations Work?
One of the best ways to keep termites out of your home is to install some termite bait stations around your home. Termite baiting systems were first tested and found to be effective, about 10-15 years ago, and are now the prime way urban homeowners use to keep termites at bay.
The principle behind termite bait stations is to slowly poison the entire termite colony by using the bait as a “trojan horse.” When the termite workers eat the bait, they go back home and transfer or regurgitate the bait to other termites. Since the termite chemical acts slowly, the termites only die after a while, and by this time, it is hoped that the poison would be well dispersed throughout the colony.
The drawback from termite baiting systems is that it does not work on non subterranean termites, and may not be as environmentally friendly as claimed. For example, if ants eat those termites, they die too, and if other larger creatures eat the termites, they get sick. End of the day, there are no perfect termite control systems.
